The other type of fee is a percentage of the assets that the financial adviser will take to manage a portfolio. According to financial advisers whom we interviewed, typical asset-management fees can vary. Michael Alexenko, who is a chartered financial analyst at Royal Asset Managers, says 0.75 percent to 1.25 percent is the typical range for asset management, plus trading costs that are passed along to the investor.
